Neurodiversity
I'm mom to two amazing kids that have different ways of being in the world. Early in my professional career I learned that to craft solutions that work, you must first discover and deeply understand who you’re serving, their needs, aspirations and motivations. I've translated this mindset to my kids’ educational and therapeutic journeys, learning and discovering alongside teachers and therapists.
I want to change the world for my kids, so they can grow up in a world where they can take up space, be themselves, and not be beholden to neurotypical goals and milestones.
Here are a few personal projects that begin to scratch the surface.
This video is geared toward parents of children who were recently diagnosed with autism and are beginning their therapeutic journey, which often consists of intensive behavioral interventions. The big idea: Your child is telling you who they are. Are you listening or are you trying to change them?
Musings on education: We don’t need incremental changes, we need fundamental changes. What would happen if we were part of a task force to reimagine it all?
In this episode, I discuss how parents can teach summer camp counselors and enrichment providers about meaningful inclusion.
Jane and I discuss what a collaborative parent/professional relationship combined with a strengths-based approach truly looks like.
